Professional Certificate in Wireless Essentials

The Professional Certificate in Wireless Essentials is designed for students who wish to grow in the wireless arena within the telecommunications industry. This program is offered predominantly through distance education.
Students completing this program will earn knowledge on wireless standards and a conceptual understanding of the communication and components that enable current wireless technologies. By completing this program students will receive college credits, and will have the opportunity to gain mastery knowledge to successfully pass industry certification exams and a Federal Communications Commission license.
As an authorized proctoring institution for FCC, APT can arrange for students to take the FCC license.

Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this program you will be able to:
  • Understand the operation of the main components of wireless systems
  • Describe the standards that regulate wireless transmission
  • Explain the purpose, features and functions of wireless LAN devices and infrastructure

    The Professional Certificate in Wireless Essentials requires students to complete the 3 courses listed in the Table below.

    APT College Credit Evaluation Committee will evaluate all applicable transfer credit and work experience toward the degree program.

    Courses

    Wireless technologies permit two-way communications that are impossible or impractical to implement with the use of wires. Wireless encompasses various types of fixed, mobile, and portable applications, including public safety radios, cellular telephones, smart phones, tablets, and various sensors devices. This course provides students with an introduction to the world of wireless technology that is impacting every sector of our interconnected world today. The course helps the student develop core knowledge centered in wireless standards and a conceptual understanding of the design, communication and components that enable current wireless technologies including 3G and ultimately 4G (LTE).

    The APT Wireless LAN Technologies series provides students with an introduction to the world of wireless local area network (WLAN) technology that is impacting every sector of our interconnected world today. This series will help the student develop core knowledge centered in WLAN standards and a conceptual understanding of the design, communication and components that enable WLANs. The course also provides foundational exposure to core objectives centered in the Certified Wireless Technology Specialist (PWO-071) certification in the Certified Wireless Network Professional certification path.

    Industry Certifications: CWTS - Certified Wireless Technology Specialist (PWO-071) in the Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP) certification path. *APT does not proctor this exam. Students must register with Pearson VUE for testing.* **Exam Fees for this certification are not included in your tuition costs**

    This course provides the fundamental knowledge that enables the student to pass the FCC Element 1 Marine Radio Operator’s Permit exam, and the FCC Element 3 General Radio Operator's License (GROL) exam. FCC Element 1 provides basic radio law and operating practice to become familiar with aircraft, ship, and other FCC licensed radio communications equipment. FCC Element 3 provides general electrical and electronic knowledge required to repair and maintain radio transmitters and receivers. The General Radio Operator's License is recognized by several employers as evidence of knowledge in the radio telecommunications field.
